We are a family of 4 trying to raise our own food and be more self sufficient. Follow us on our journey as we start our house, garden, raise and harvest animals! We plan on having chickens, kune kune pigs, Nigerian dwarf goats, and possibly more.

More Chicks! Pigs Move Back Into The Woods.
We have been cruising along this summer with all that has been happening on the farm and we just realized that we are more than half way through our meat bird season. We only have 3 more orders of chicks left this year and we picked one up today.
We have also moved our gilts and sows together into the woods to have them be able to clean up the woods, get shade, and stay cool.

In few of our pig pens we have had a hard time finding a place that is close to move them to or that doesn't put them back on a area that they have already been on to soon. We have figured out where to move them so we can keep them on fresh pasture and also off of their manure. Just one week after our largetest Kunekune litter we had our Smallest Kunekune litter of the Spring! This was our kunekune sow Thistle's first litter. Sometimes a sow's first litter can be small so this was not a huge surprise. We are more concerned with healthy piglets than the size of the litters so this was not a big issue for us. We have done that before haven’t noticed enough difference to keep doing it but it definitely doesn’t hurt

We use the Piglet Netting for the newborns up until weaning. We also have the taller 4' x 160' netting for our Nigerian Dwarf goats. They all work great, just not so easy to move through our densely wooded property.
